I am a practising textile artist and designer based in Weymouth creating functional pieces, with exclusive accessories such as handbags and corsages aswell as textile art pieces including hangings and framed works.
A profound influence in my work is the found object, from organic pieces to the antique finds. I take great pleasure in finding beauty in something that has been discarded and giving that object a new life.
This especially effects my views of vintage and recycled textiles. I believe these pieces can almost take on a human quality, having been part of someone's home or wardrobe for so long, then taking a transformative journey: being reworked by hand and becoming once again an intimate part of someone elses life, as a handbag or as a contemporary textile art piece in their home.
I currently take part in exhibitions design fairs and sell through independent boutiques throughout the south coast.
Hi. The next Weymouth Arts Network social is this coming Wednesday (2nd July). Gonna meet for drink and chat on the outside tables at the Excise House in Hope Square (Brewers Quay) at 8pm. If its wet or cold, we'll meet inside.
WAN social meet will be at The Edinburgh (3/4 St Thomas Street, opposite 'Snows') this Wednesday at 8pm. Come and have a drink and a chat. Its recently been nicely refurbished and the landlady is very friendly and says its pretty quiet there on Wednesday evenings. We'll give it ago but can always try somewhere else next time (didn't get Whitestones Cafe organised in time on this occasion). Feel free to bring along any bits of work you are happy to show others (though not compulsory).
Following on from last weeks discussion meeting last Friday (formalising WAN), there will be a meeting on Wednesday 21st May 8.30pm at Statue House Tapas Bar to discuss the outcomes and hopefully make some decisions.
Sarah says; "We can meet downstairs at the back of the restaurant, and if it gets busy we can ascend to the upstairs room. Sue is happy to host our meetings, and we should partake in their Rioja in exchange. I am happy to chair as I think this needs to be a little organised, can someone else please do the Minutes?"
