I originally trained as an Illustrator , specialising on the Post Grad course at St Martins, and worked for several years as a freelance Illustrator, mainly Editorial work for Observer, Sunday Times, Best and Bella magazines etc. My last project was for Hodder Wayland in 2000. I moved to Cyprus in 1989, where I taught in Colleges and Schools and ran my own Art Gallery called Mermaid in Limassol for almost 5 years. From here I continued to freelance as an Illustrator/Designer, devloping my Painting and teach private students. I have always taught, for 20 something years now, mainly in F.E, and lectured at Weymouth College until 2006. I still lecture p/t at Bournemouth and Poole College and ocassional Visiting Tutor at the Arts Institute. I also run private classes and workshops from home (please enquire for details). When I relocated to Dorset in 1997 my work began to change, becoming absorbed by the beautiful, dramatic and powerful coastline and ancient terrain . I work in mixed media, and live on Portland . The Sea is a powerful source of inspiration for me.
I combine layers of plaster, acrylic/oil glazes and raw pigments, and the occasional use of iridescents and golds. I draw and sketch often on location , but it is my memory and feelings which dictate the final outcomes.
My intentions are,to evoke the spirit and essence of places that I have visited, recorded and committed to memory.
Hello there! I think I might've seen you in the Co Op in Fortuneswell. ...Assuming it was you, I recognised you from your picture here, but didn't make the link til just now. ...Did you have quite unusual nice green shoes on? If it wasn't you then, well, hello anyway, I'm Tom!
And hmm, I'm not sure this website is really for messages about the Co Op and shoes!
Cheers!
Tom
