Would you be interested in doing open studio weekends during September 2009?
Would you like to participate in a group exhibition to showcase work?
Would you like to create a group venue for those without studios?
Would you like to promote the event at Spirit of the Sea, Weymouth Carnival and Sailing for Gold?
Would you be prepared to pay £80- £100 to produce a brochure and a website with details of participating artists/groups?
We are a group of artists who have met regularly since Dorset Artweeks with the aim of opening our studios in 2009. We now need to know how many more artists would like to take part: we hope to include as many artists as possible and want the event to be open to everyone. The questions above reflect the thinking of our last meeting, and I hope are helpful guidelines as to what we would like to achieve. Please respond here or send me a message if you are interested. Thank you - and do pass this information on to anyone you think might not see this post.
To respond to the questions about dates and group venue, notes from Andrea's summary of our Dec meeting are below. Since then we had a very constructive and supportive meeting with Alan Rogers and it looks like we may be able to get the ocean room at the Pavillion as a group venue in September. We are also hoping to use the Spirit of the Sea festival in July to promote the event. Regarding B- side, perhaps we can promote and benefit each other? Please do come along to our NEXT MEETING WHICH IS ON WEDS 21ST JAN AT 7PM: venue will be emailed when we know it. Please email andrea (andrea@thetiaraschool.com) if you want to be added to the mailing list
"We decided to take the plunge and set the open studio dates for September. We thought September as it’s still good weather, and there are still lots of people around. We thought that it’d be better to do the weekends rather than a full block of a couple of weeks as this would be more manageable for artists and wouldn’t take such a chunk out of our lives! We set the dates for the weekends of 5/6th sept, 12/13th 19/20 and 26/27th. There is a big sailing event- go for gold on from 12th September so we thought we may be able to benefit from the visitors/ publicity of that. The intention is that artists will commit to doing as many weekends as they can but are not obliged to do any more than they want.
We also talked about having a central venue during the open studios, that artists could use to display work if they were taking part or for artists who didn’t have a studio to use- that could feed people out to the venues. We did talk about the sailing academy, but as they have the sailing on we’re not sure if they’d be interested."
